Nutrition in Action, China

PepsiCo’s Greater China Region business unit has launched a wide-ranging nutritional programme in association with the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation and the Chinese Nutrition Society.
The group has been very active in a number of CSR initiatives in China and has also invested in production of raw materials for its snack brands as well as beverages.
As we have reported, the company has for several years been helping poorer communities in China with water supply and hygiene, working in collaboration with national women’s groups.
The nutritional initiative, which could be extended later, initially focuses on providing healthy meals to school children in poor areas of Yunnan Province, southwestern China.
It is built largely on the Quaker Oats brand which PepsiCo has been leveraging into beverages in a new product development created to suit Chinese tastes.
As well as research and development of healthy beverages and other products for the vast China market PepsiCo has drawn on its nutrition research in the US and elsewhere to enhance nutritional work in China.
